Judith Kunzlé went to China in March/ April 2009 and in May 2011. Both journeys included an art and culture tour, organized and guided by Amy Loewan for the Visual Arts Association of Alberta, Canada (VAAA).

While the first trip in 2009 focused on Eastern China, Beijing to Shanghai, the 2011 trip explored the west, the Silk Road, from Kashgar or Ürümqi, to Dunhuang and Xi'an, ending in Shanghai.

Many local guides shared their knowledge and insight and added much to the understanding of China's complex history and society.
